PROPERTY TAX Its Effect on the Building Industry [Newspaper Article] — Construction and Real Estate Journal — 3 December 1930

PROPERTY TAX Its Effect on the Building Im istry The protest registered by the Master 'Build- ers' Association against the property tax, as referred to in last week's issue of 'Construc- tion,' calls for serious consideration in so far as it focuses attention on an aspect of the tax, which is so far reaching and severe in its effect that it will not on*ly hinder the development of industry, but will defeat the object .of the tax, namely to bring revenue to the coffers ~- of the Federal Government. , Parliamentarians must not lose sight of the fact that the property tax is not the only avenue through which the Government raises' money, but if by taxing property ito such an - extent that it hampers industry in 'Other fields, then its incidence is far more harmful than beneficial both to the industries concerned and to the Government as a revenue producer. There is comparatively little waste space and the little which results is amply compensated for by an engaging quaintness in the appearance of the interior, especially of the hall itself, which with its staircase alone three narts of its wall snace would look verv decorative viewed through the doorways of either of the reception rooms. The kitchen is well placed for quick and convenient service to the entrance and the dining room,, and the lounge should he a pleasant room. The actual entrance is protected by a porte cochere over which hangs the front bedrooms, supported by masonry piers . All the bedrooms are room-r an...
