His Side [Newspaper Article] — Behrend Beacon (1998-2010) — 8 October 1999

His Side by Jermaine Hardy staff writer O.k. fellas, if your girlfriend insists on dragging you to see this movie it ' s alright because it won ' t be as bad as you think. Melissa Joan Hart is the bomb, and. oh yeah, the movie is good, too. The movie ' s hype may have some expecting the average "run of the mill" teenage romantic comedy, (a.k.a. girlie movie) but with Drive Me Crazy this is not quite the case. Unlike some other clueless efforts, this movie actually makes some valuable points while depicting teens of the 90's in their true light. As the main plot focuses on the romantic relationship between Nicole and Chad, there are multiple themes that suggest the statein which teens are living today with relative accuracy. The movie is rather easy for most teens to relate to. You and your girl should have a great time watching it together. However you will have to give it a chance. Il has a slow beginning that maybe be hard for a guy lo take. Al the beginning you may say to...

Website of the Week [Newspaper Article] — Behrend Beacon (1998-2010) — 8 October 1999

Website of the Week by Christine Kleck staff writer From Peach Street to Wall Street, on-line auctions are changing the way people do business and how Americans buy and sell everything, from Beanie Babies to plane tickets and computers. If you're looking for something less mainstream, there are also sites that auction items as off-the-wall as oil-drilling equipment and bulk seafood. According lo statistics from the Internet research firm Media Metrix, around 13% of all Internet users tracked during its fall research period visited auction sites. This amounts to about 7 million unique visitors. But along with these hundreds (and rapidly expanding) siles come almost as many things ihat you have to keep in mind when using them. There are two primary kinds of auction sites buy-and-sell and vendor only. For both of them, membership is usually free, and most of the time you can cither follow the bidding yourself or have a proxybidding engine do the work for you. All you have lo do i...

UIVJLJ STUDENT CLUB OF THE WEEK ¦ Rmigihts of Columbus and | Wih® Newmans Association by Liz Hayes staff writer J At Penn Slate Behrend there arcdozens and dozens of student organizations that are leadership, academi-¦ cully, or socially oriented. However. J there are also a few reiigiously-alfili-! ated organizations that few seem to know about. The Behrend Knights of Columbus - K of C - is one such organization. i Many are probably slightly more familiar with the parent organization that has branches in many communities. This organization was founded in 18X2 by Father Michael McGiviicy in St. Mary's Church. New Haven. CT. The Behrend K of C was started in the early PMO's with the help of a local K of C chapter. Back in the 1800's. the organization was founded with the intent of providing support for the great influx of Catholic immigrants. A Day in the Life of a Commuter [Newspaper Article] — Behrend Beacon (1998-2010) — 8 October 1999

A Day in the Life of a Commuter by Erin McCarty and Christine Kk-ck Even though commuters make up the majority of tlie student body here tit Behrend. it is easy lor them to feel left out. After all. u commuter is not required to spend the night in an on-eampus dorm and does not have to occupy the time between classes and bedtime with on-campus activities. For a commuter, college may seem a lot like high school. A certain number of hours each day are spent in school and then it's time to go home. The only difference between college and high school is that not all of your school day is spent in the classroom. If a commuter lives close enough to Behrend and has time between classes, they have the tendency to rush home; to take advantage of that hour away from much needed school surroundings. Because of this, [icer interaction is often exercised at a minimum outside of the classroom for commuters. 1 lere are some suggestions to make commuters feel more at home at Behrend. Ins...

It doesn't look like high school anymore [Newspaper Article] — Behrend Beacon (1998-2010) — 8 October 1999

It doesn't look like high school anymore by Jennifer Primt-rano and Rebecca WeindoiT The only way to adapt to college is to do it. Many people have prepared for college- taken the SAT's, tilled out applications, gotten accepted to a good college, and finally scheduled fall classes. However, no matter how much you prepare for the drastic changes of being in college, you will never be fully prepared until you experience them first. Right now. thousands of freshmen across the country are getting accustomed to the differences between high school and college. One of the biggest problems that can drag someone down is failing to manage their time efficiently. "It's much more difficult lo manage my time since 1 have more responsibility this year than I did last year." said Jon Crawford (Commu 01). Some students thrive on the fact that their lime is theirs lo manage. Some choose to squander away precious hours from studying and choose to attend parties, while others spend endless h...

Learning lacrosse through blood, sweat and tears [Newspaper Article] — Behrend Beacon (1998-2010) — 8 October 1999

Learning lacrosse through blood, sweat and tears The View From He, i About a month ago 1 was walking oul oflhe Reed Union Building and 1 noticed a sign on the door about a Behrend lacrosse team forming this year. 1 figured I'd give it a shot. 1 didn't have much to lose. I decided to join Ihe team for a few reasons. Most of all because lacrosse is in my blood. Both of my brothers played in high school and my oldest brother went on to play at Bowling Green State University. He was quite successful, so I figured some of it would rub off on me. When 1 was just a child, he put a lacrosse slick in my hand and taught me how to catch it my stick. It can be a little intimidating. One of the first times I over played catch with my brother was memorable. He lofted the ball to me. and I was rarely able to catch it. Once in awhile, miraculously the ball would find the netting in my stick. After some time I began lo get a feel for it. .7 ¦ - . ¦ . . o 1 though! 1 had gotten prellv ...
