COLLEGE DRIFT . [Newspaper Article] — Daily Illini — 15 December 1880
COLLEGE DRIFT . EXCHANGES . We have to note an increase in the size of the College Review . Four pages have been added . Minerva , this time , like Christopho Colombo , is on a bust , but nevertheless looks happy . The contents of th...

UNKNOWN [Newspaper Article] — Daily Illini — 19 January 1881
We hope that the new year and the new term which have now fairl y begun will be happy and prosperous to all our readers . Few things occurred during last term to disturb the regular study , and much hard work was accomplished . This present terms work will probabl y be more interrupted by various meetings and entertainments than was that of last term , but still these should not be allowed to interfere with the class duties which are laid upon every student . The five months of study which lie between now and commencement will result in much good to all members of the University if they are rightly used . But they may pass for nothing if too much attention is paid to outside affairs , which always become more and more plentiful as the end of the college year approaches . While class work should be no less good than that of last term , the work of the societies should be better . Most of the members have grown accustomed to the writing and delivering of productions upon the platform ...

We give in this number a statement of the results arrived at b y Professors Weber and Scovell from their experiments with sorghum . Many of the students have watched the progress of these experiments with interest , and some have aided in them . To these especially will this statement of results be acceptable . The value of the facts which it brings to light should make it not uninteresting to others . Still we expect to hear from various sourcesj from certain of our exchanges in particular , that a judicious editor of a college paper would never have placed it in his columns . Very well . We are entirely in sympathy with the rage for the light and fanciful in college journalism , but this does not prevent us from dealing with facts and recording from time to time the valuable work done in our laboratories .
