For a Quarter of a century we have bred the best Berkshires that experience and thoughtful care could produce . Count Robin 119112 , one of the great boars that we are using at present is one of the best that we have ever used . We have used such great boars as Lord Lee , the sire of Handsome Lee ; Cock Robin , the sire of the State Fair winner Master Robin ; and Lord Robin , one of the greatest boars of the breed but hone . of these- were better sires than Count Robin . We also have in the herd the great boar Baron Duke 100 th , one of the longest , deepest boars of the breed , and a splendid breeder himself . Our sows are bred along the same line that we have been developing for years , and when mated with the great boars that we are using there is no reason why we should not produce many good Berkshires . Our prices are fair and reasonable . Our quality is the very best We will treat you as fair as we know how and we want your business . Write us your wants . Harris 8 McMahan Lam...

Who s Who In Berkshires RALPH CREIGHTON , Creighton , Mo Creighton , Mo The Berkshire World , Springfield , 111 . Gentlemen : —When I received your letter asking me to give you something for the column , Whos Who in Berkshires , I first stopped to think what are t ^ e qualifications of the Whos , and what one must do to be a Who in Berkshires . Judging from the amount of inquiries I am receiving nowadays , and sales made , there are many who want to be rated among the Who s . Hardly a day passes now , but what I get from one letter to a handful of Inquiries about my Berkshires , and most always want something sired by or bred to Berrys Choice , and with few exceptions , say , I saw your ad in The Berkshire World . 1 am going to give you somewhat of my line of procedure , so you , as well as the readers of this paper , may decide whether I am one of the Whos or not In starting a herd , the first thing , and also the last thing to be considered , is the herd boar . I used several good...

Oregon Masterpiece 142087 Word has just reached us that Oregon Masterpiece 142087 has arrived safely in his new home at Crabtree , Oregon . Mr . Doerr says : The young boar is a handsome one , and was bought by Barrows and Davenport of A . T . Doerr & Sons of Harvel , Illinois . The young boar is a son of Artful Masterpiece 110970 and has for his dam Ideal Lady S . 114741 , one of the good daughters of Ideal Masterpiece 103000 . Surely this young boar had a right to travel over all this great country . Leaving the Corn Belt of Illinois , he crossed the State of Missouri , where he had to be shown ; then the Grass Hopper State came next with its western portion and part of Colorado , once the Great American Desert ; crossing this , piggie got a glimpse of the snowcapped Rockies and , wondering what would surprise him next , he smiled to see the beautiful Salt Lake , and the city . But on , on , past Yellowstone Park , and the great irrigation districts in Idaho , and over...

Down on the Crooks . [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 March 1911
Down on the Crooks . Conetoe , N . C . The Berkshire World , Springfield , 111 . Gentlemen : —I hope that The Berkshire World will give the farmers , whose names I enclose , a better understanding of what the modern Berkshire is . The farmers around me say that they have had the Berkshire , but they were no such long , deep-bodied hogs as mine are . I received two fine gilts yesterday , one by Rival s Champion and out - of the splendid daughter of Premier Longfellow , that C . B . Gracy bought at the dispersal sale of Berkshires at Kinloch Farm , and the other a daughter of another fine Premier Longfeltow- sow , lull sister to Russwurms Grand Champion boar . These are fine specimens of the breed . I find them in every way what Mr . Gracy represented them . They cost me $ 152 . 00 delivered , but they are cheap at that . You are doing a good work for the breed , and if you could only convince every breeder that a good pig is a living advertisement , and only by breeding the best can ...

Prize Winning Plymouth Rocks Our old friend , that well known Berkshire breeder , Mr . C . A . Robin son , Kirksville , Mo ., has been breeding prize winning strains of Plymouth Hocks for many years . He breeds good ones and although we are not a poultry organ , yet our field man knows a good Plymouth Rock when he sees it , and we can conscientiously recommend both Mr . C . A . Robinson and his Plymouth Rock chickens . They look good to us , and his prices seem to be very reasonable . Our readers will make no mistake if they write Mr . C . A . Robinson , Kirksville , Mo ., and have him send one or more of those good Plymouth Rock Cockerels that he is advertising at $ 1 . 50 to $ 2 . 50 each .

Selected for "Hog Train . " [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 March 1911
Selected for Hog Train . Marietta , 6 a . The Berkshire World , Springfield , 111 . \ Gentlemen : — You have already heard something about the educational train that was to tour the State of Georgia and how Prof . Hite , Director of the Extension Work , traveled over the country , looking for an ideal pair of Berkshires for this train . I have been told that he has traveled throughout Europe and all over America , and I am sure he knows a Berkshire when he sees it . Therefore , you must know that I feel proud of the fact , that after inspecting the best . herds , especially in the South , he bought the pair at Clifton , and told me in person that he had not seen anything like them . Said so far as he knew I had the best herd to be found . They were looking for as near the ideal Berkshire as could be found , and Prof . Hite said when he reached Clifton it did not take him twenty minutes to know that he had found the goods . I consented to part with this pair , only because I wanted t...
Where the Black Robinhoods Grow . [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 March 1911
Where the Black Robinhoods Grow . The popularity of the Black Robinhood family is spreading all over the United States and into Mexico and South America . Mr . G . D . Willems , Inman , Kans ., writes us that he has shipped Black Robinhoods all over the United States , and to several points in Old Mexico . Mr . Willems developed the great boar , Berryton Duke Jr ., now owned at Sutton Farm , Lawrence , Kans ., and at one time owned Berryton Boy , the manificent boar owned at Tannenbaum Farms , Willoughby , Ohio , and also developed Robinhood Premier , one of the best boars the breed has ever produced , and now owned by Mr . Chas . Holland , Springfield , Mo . It is certainly no small honor for one breeder to have owned and developed three such boars , and as Mr . Willems is said to be too honest to be a good business man , he is a pretty good kind to do business with . We have never had the pleasure of visiting Mr . Willems farm , but our Associate Editor , Mr . Geo . W . Berry of T...

The guards prevent them from interfering with one another . Each hog , whether large or small , is sure to get its share of the feed .
