R. N. SUTHERLIN, Editor. W. II. SUTHIERLIN, Assistant Editor. TIIUISD)AY, ,June 9, !881. WVi had information somle time since froln Washingtoi thuit it wolid be dillietult to get any new mail routes in Montana until alter the present proposed railroads were com pleted, as this would change the entire mail system in the Territory. But as there i. no doubt but what it will be several years be fore this is consununtited, there are some lines which are greatly needed now, anud i fact, have become a necessity, and some of them are routes which the coming of the railroads maiy not efect. The most urgent of these is a direct route from Bozeman to Dillon, via Cockerill's new Madison bridge Willow creek, South Boulder and the W\Vat erloo settlement on the Jeflerson. This line would accommodate quite a number of settlements now but instfliciently supplied with mail, and would give Bozeman the States mails Lore twenty-fonr to forty-eight hours earlier than they are now supplied. TI{e intlluence of the .crs.ey is very dis tinctly marked upon the common farm herds. Wherever one travels, it is plain a very large infulsion of this blood has been made in our common stock. Thei enormons benefit thus conferred upon the dairy inter est can scarcely be estimated. The quanti ty of the butter produced is greatly inicreas ed, and the quality is improved so as to double in value. It is this that has brought the Western dairy to the first position, and put it ahead of every Eastern competitor. Every premium-winner at dairy exhibitions tells the story when he says, *'My herd is of Jersey blood."'-Davenport Democrat. THE BEST HORSE FOR FARMERS TO BREED. There has been so niuch printed this win ter by the owners of draft horses in their favor, I tnumk it time we should have some thing on the other side. The owners of va rious breeds of draft horses give us plenty of gratuitous advice all ternding to induce the farmers to buy or use their miserable stock. Now what we want to...

R. N. SUTHERLIN, Editor. W. Hi. SUTHERLIN, Assistant Editor. TIIURSDAY, June 16, !881. MEAGHER COunty, occupying the most fertile portion of the great peninsula lying between the Yellowstone and Missouri, and reaching across the great bend of the Mis souri from the river west to the river east, embracing an area of no less than 10,000 square miles, presents as fine opportuni ties for home making as are to be found on the continent. The county is in a most ex cellent financial condition. Taxes are light, only 14 mills on the dollar, and the taxable property of the county is rapidly increasing. The county debt, which is small, will soon be wiped out, and the county, now among the first in the Territory in financial stand ing, will take its place at the head. The school system averages with the rest of the '~erritory. Its agricultural and pastural fa cilities can no where be surpassed. The Mlissouri valley, the western border of the county, posesses thousands of acres ol fine farming l...
