iff-i ? I ti Do not forgot that cattle should I have access to salt every day. The I large blocks of salt that can now be bought in any town are the best, as the caltlo will lick them and take only what they need. They will perhaps tako too much at fhst, if they have not been salt ed regularly, but after a few days they will tako only what they need. Theso lumps are better than fine salt, as, if they are put undor shel ter, they will not waste, and they are always ready for a lick from the blodk. It is not well enough understood that cows deprived oi bait, even for a short time, will Iosh largely in milk. Prof. Boberts, as the result of a series of experi ments, says this loss is from four teen lo eighteen per cent in quan tity, and that the milk is of an in ferior quality. The milk turns sour, ou the average, at least twenty four hours sooner than milk from cows that have salt, other condi tions being the same. The heavy volume of traf fic enjoyed by the railroads, the scarcity o cars and the advancing tendency of freight raleB are all signs of swelling prosperity.
