The din of registration and the mad scramble for a place In the numerous lines around the library are over and once again I have settled down to the very peaceful life of a disillus- ioned newspaper editor always look- ing in the copy basket for something that is never there a little more copy. Copy that one word that has be- come part of my existence. It has been drummed into my head by form- er editors. I used to laugh but now well I am in the same shape they were calling for more copy just two or three more stories that I know I will never get. At the quarter mark the Jackets were leading 18 to 9 and at the half lead 27 to 22. Some people think of patriotism as being super-loyal sus- pecting his neighbors friends and acquaintances of being fifth-columnists and spies. This sort of person seizes upon every bit of rumor and hand-me-down news and his tempera- ment Is always gauged by the effect of these ruraois on his mind. If he heats that a thousand soldiers were killed on his ship or that so many died in that camp he immediately becomes down-cast. If again he hears of great American victories he goes around telling of them spreading false hopes. Such a person does the country in which he jesldes more harm than he does good. H...

March 5 1942 YELLOW JACKET YELLOW JACKET SPORTS VtL XXVIII. Owls And Hogs Tie For SW Cage Title Tho Southwest Conrcrcnce basket- ball race ended In a tic with the Rice Owls and Arkansas Razorbacks both winning ten games and losing two. Officials of the schools have not decided yet whether to permit the two cage squads to play-off the tie. As West Texas State Teachers Col- lege would probably be Included In the play-off and the fact that when a tie resulted no champion has been announced it is likely that no play- off will be held. Rice entered the tie by beating the Longhorns at Austin Saturday night and at the same time amassed enough points to break the scoring record for the Southwest Loop which was set in 1041 by the Hogs. Arkansas defeated Texas Christian University at Fayettvlllc to end the season with ten wins and two losses. Dwight Parks Baylor guard made a new individual scoring record in the Southwest conference of 214 points when his team defeated South- ern Methodist Uni...
