HEATHCOTE HQSP~TAL. Tuesday, l1th October, 1864. Present-Mr. Hay, (in the chair) and Messrs. Keene, Hogarth, Tierney, Von-der Lnft, Cunningham, 3'Innes and Carkeet. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confrmed. The Chairman reported that the Sub Committee appointed for making arrange ments for having the district canvassed for subcriptions, had secured the services of Mr. Alsop, who would start at once. Mr. AIs'op had named MIessrs. Sims & Jones, as sureties whioh he, the Chairman, con sidered sufficient. The Committee approved of the security tendered. co RESPONDEI~ENCE. A letter from the Road Board was read, stating that as most of the Members of the Board, and a good number of the ratepayers are subscribers to the Institute, it is not considered right to spend the funds of the Board for charitable purposes. [October in Australia corresponds to April in Great Britain.] KrrcnIx GARDEN.--IE September has been very wet much will have been left to be clone on henavy soils in October, but ad vantage should at once be taken to bring up arr'ars, as the summer will shortly be upon us. In putting in any crops now, no green manure shoulld be used, it would in crease the liability of the roots being de prived of moisture early in the season. All manure, at this season, should be well de caryed, and cow, or sheep's dung, or guano, is most desirable. Carrote and Parsanips.~-Thin out to about two inches apart at first, and when they have grown a little, and may be used in soup, &c., thin out about five or six inches apart., Beet.-Thin out, and in wat, weather plant out if necessary; sow again for a stlccession.
