CAPTAIN DREYFUS. The Trae Story of His Conviction. [By M.; De NIevers, in the 'Pall £ = ' Mall Gazette,'] Early in 1894 the French War Office was thrown into a, state of trepidation through the news, that there waB con siderable 'leakage V 111 the Bureau de la Guerre. The disease had existed at all times, and will continue for an in definite time longer among French bureaucracy — an inevitable oonsequonce of paying men in responsible positions thirty shillings a week. But in this instance tho case seems too Borious to be hushed up. How tho information originated nobody then seemed able to say, and none will say now. All that transpired was that some documents bearing on armaments and mobilization in case of war had found their way to the German Embassy- A memorandum of secrets betrayed, the famous Bordereau, had been found, in the Ambassador's ? waste-paper basketsfiome Bay, and sub mitted to the Intelligence Department of t.hu»Bureau. OLD COMPARISON. The people around the little town called old farmer Haystack, 'Old Com parison,' and I knew in a general way why the sobriquet had been. given him, but I did not, during my month's stay have an opportunity to test it, until one day I was passing his house and he was sitting on the steps of the little vine clad porch in front. ? General Utility. [Newspaper Article] — Jerilderie Herald and Urana Advertiser — 27 January 1899

General Utility. By general utility I mean a good ' all round ' fowl — one that is hardy, matures quickly, grows to a fair size, and one. that lays at leaBt-130 eggs a year. In this -utility fowl we do not care for colour ; still, if we cau keep to the standard colour of the breed, without damaging the fluck in any- way, so much the better. As genoral utility fowls I find the Wyandottes and Orpingtons the two best ; then come Dorkings, Rocks, Langshans, Houdans, &c. Dorkings and Houdans do not do so well as the others in a wet or cold climate.- Wyan dotteB, Orpingtons, Langshans, and Rocks do well in most all climates. In keeping up the stamiua and egg production of these breedB we must save eggs for breeders only from our largest and Heat-laying hens. If we follow this rule we increase the size as well as keep up a good egg-production. The farmers of the colony should be the men to keep the general utility breeds. They should throw aside the old idea that 'one hen is as goo...
