Mr. Gillespie stood up and said: — 'Nobody stops you betting in Collie. There hasn't been a conviction for forty years.' A voice called 'shame.' 'It is not a shame,' said Mr. Gilles pie. 'i hat is why we have the highest coal production per man in the world. The S.I', shops are a real amenity. Paid on Friday the men go to S.P. shops on Saturday afternoon and have their money taken away from them before they can drink it and so they turn up fit on Monday morning.'

Nabawa Road Fatality ?♦ ? Motor Truck Somersaults OPENING OF INQUEST Tiie District Coroner (Mr. T. Ansell) yesterday opened an inquest at Gerald ton into the deaths of Ronald Sydney Walton (21), laborer, of Northampton, and Lawrence Joseph Wight (23), single, laborer, of Northampton, who were fatally injured when the truck in which they were passengers overturned on the old Geraldton-Northampton Road about five miles north of Nabawa in the early hours of March 14th. The Coroner was assisted by Detective A. L. M. Wedd and Mr. C. E. Stow appear- ed for the driver of the truck (Donald Vincent Powel) and T. P. Crothers &   Sons, owners of the truck. Alfred Stanley Jones, St. John ambu lance driver, of Geraldton, said that on March 14th he attended the scene ol the accident at about 2.30 a.m. The surface of the road near where the accident occurred was rather rough.
