Ambulance "Debs" Hit Of Jacaranda Ball [Newspaper Article] — The Cumberland Argus — 13 December 1950

Ambulance -."Debs"' Hi Of Jacaranda - Ball Members of St. John Ambulance Brigade, whose hilarious burlesque debs' presentation steals the show wherever they take it, excelled again at the Jacaranda Ball, held recently at Hiawatha, when their act proved the star turn of the evening. Only serious rivalry came from comic antics of Mr. Frank Lock wood, in costume as a prehis toric caveman, and Mr. Tim Cusack, as "Mother's Darling," each acting in character. In the - deb. show, "guest of honor" was Princess Rangi Tangi (Mr. W. Twigg)-from what spot on the globe nobody seems to know; coy flower girl was Little Bo-Peep (Mi'. K. Forrstrom) and Lizzie Landslide (Mr. W. Howell) was matron of honor. The debs. were Bertha Blush (Mr. M. Dodd), Lady Love a Duck (Mr. R. Pilcher), Gorgeous Gussie (Mr. N. Wilson),. Glaxo Baby (Mr. J. Bugani), Bertha Betchalife (Mr. H. Bergan), Deadhead Dora (Mr. J. Wilson), Daisy Dewdrop (Mr. J. Lowe), Flirtatious Flo (Mr. A. Batch eloi'). The party was introduced b...

STOLE MATERIAL FOR HOMES [Newspaper Article] — The Cumberland Argus — 13 December 1950

STOLE MATERIAL FOR HOMES A young married man who pleaded' guilty to charges of stealing building materials from home sites at Villawood, was fined £10 by Mr. Brown, S.M., at Parramatta Court, last week. Rex Mead (25), laborer, of Lupin Ave., Villawood, was charged with having stolen six lengths of hardwood timber, 12 lengths of baltic timber, and 300 house bricks, valued at £5, the property of John Brosr.an, of Normandy Street, Villawood. Constable Baker, of Parra matta, said that Mead had re moved the materials from build ing sites near his uncompleted home when returning from shift work at night. Mead, who was erecting a fibro cottage in a zoned "brick" area, had been unable to obtain a building loan for its construc tion, the constable added. Mr. Edgley (for Mead), said that Mead was a married man, who had served 21/2 years in the A.I.F. during World War II. "He is in a good job, and this is his first offence," Mr. Edgley added.
