Princess Borghese. [Newspaper Article] — The North Queensland Register — 31 August 1892

Priocess Borghese. Princess Boghese. nee Countess Helen6 Appouyi, is the beautiful wife of a prince who, through numerous speculations, ha® brought to ruin one of the most talented families of the Continent. From herjeunesse her beautiful and graceful figure has been admired at all receptions, not forgetting her presentation at the Queen's first Drawing Boom of 1866. Her father was our Austrian Ambassador, and the aid she rendered him in the performance of this post is incalculable. She is a singer of the best calibre and in painting she excels, whilst her five children have inherited these enviable qualities to the full, and have had them cultivated by their mother. Everybody sympathises with the family in their serious misfortune.

Conciliation Courts. [Newspaper Article] — The North Queensland Register — 31 August 1892

THERE is not the slightest doubt that here, as inHJngland, most persons are averse to bringing matters in dispute before our law courts because, of -the tedious, costly, and generally unsatis factory nature of the procedure Many there are indeed who, having nothing to lose, commence actions often of a bogus nature iij the hope of levying blackmail, calculating that the defendants will recognise that it is better to settle by a comparatively small cash payment down than to fight to a successful issue with the unpleasant after result of having to pay a bill of costs of probably many times that amount. Again the iiti-1 gant does not like the atmosphere of a court where he finds himself ham pered by rules, forms, and ceremonies, sometimes bounced and bullied, gene rally lookedupon by the opposite side with doubt and suspicion^ and if the judicial juices of the judicial stomach are soured, liable to punish ment for a probably unwitting con tempt of court, la lien of each case being decide...
