' :'-V \ - INQUIRY. An inquiry was held before Mr. Coroner Murphy on Tuesday afternoon, at Moran's Hotel, and the following jury : — Messrs. E. Plowright (foreman), E, Devoroux, W. Little, E. Hyde, F. Hyde, J. Parry, W. Hunt, J. Byrne, E. W. Tones, A. M'Keachie, T. Moran, H. Bryan. William Rumph, sworn, said : Am a tinsmith residing at Bombala. Recollect Friday night last, the 26th ; wont to bed about 20 minutes past 10. 1 sleep at the back of my shop. Have viewed the sopne of the late fire just behind my shop. On the night of the 26th there was a black smith's shop and a kitchon thoro when I went to bed.' On Saturday morning early I woke up and heard a roaring noise ; I thought it was in Mr. Moore's shop, which adjoins mino. When I heard the noisaj thought they had started working. (By oxm ova OoBRKaPormKHT.) . - Obixoaey.—I have to reoord the death of a very old Monaro identity, in the por 'sou of' Alexander MoDonald, sen., of Biver'View, who paaBod away to tbe big majority ou Junuary 23rd, from senile decay, after a long illness, extending ovur several months. The deoeased was a na tive. of Inveriiesahire, Scotland, where ho was, born in 1813, and consequently at tho time of his death was in his 87th year, He landed in Australia in 1839, and at once took up. his residence ou Monaro, being amongst the first batch of settlers that occupied grounds in the Nimitybelle district. In 1851 he joined the general stampede for Bendigo, in Viotoria, where the gold fever epidemic was raging at the time, at whioh place he -was fairly suc cessful. Returning, to Nimitybelle he oommenoed business in the storekeeping line, combined with ' pastoral pursuits.
