The Burra Corporation and Ayers-street. [Newspaper Article] — Burra Record — 6 February 1880

The Burra Corporation and Ayers-street. We regret that on Monday last at the Council considerable warmth, of feeling was displayed in. connection -with the motion which has been for some time before the Council relating to the making and maintenance of Ayers-st. Nothing could be more injurions to the well being of the towji than the setting of ward against ward^. and. unless great circumspection bs useti we fear this will be done over the question in dispute. At the same time we are not afraid but that if proper arguments are brought to bear the representation of North Ward will withdraw from the position tiny at presenttfoccupy of threatening to re sign. A victory won on these terms yrould ~ be no. victory at all. A& a matter of fact Ayerc-itreet need not be made throughout and the maintenance would be a, very small matter, but for its being the only thoroughfare to the Cemetery, and at least one-half of the cost of the road is the outcome of tliat traffic. Taking this^riew...
