MONARTO. On Tuesday, April 2fi, a successful concert was given by Mrs. Anderson's party from Hamley Bridge, assisted by Mr. W. Rosa Smith. The hall was crowded, the takings amounted to £12 4/-. The opportunity was also taken of presenting the mementoes from the Commonwealth War Office through the district council to the trustees of the Soldiers' Memorial Hall. The mementoes were a machine gun captured by the 43rd battalion, in which some of the soldiers from this district were in, and two photos. Australia's first battleship and Cap tain Cook. After the close of the concert supper was served by the ladles of the district. Dancing fol lowed. Music was supplied by Mrs. Anderson's party, Mr. Nolan being M.C. The proceeds went in aid of hall funds. The weather is keeping very dry, farmers are anxiously waiting for a good rain so to start with the seed ing operations. No charge is made'for weighing, but act ing on the suggestion of several peo ple who came into the shop to weigh, a sealed tin was placed near the scales, labelled for some - specific charity, with the result shown above. DAIRYMEN'S DISPUTE Matters between, the River Murray Dairymen's Association and distribu-, tors reached, another stage on Tuesday when, .representatives of the . South Australian farmers' Co-operative Union, Limited, and, the Adelaide Milk Supply Co-operative, Limited, met the. executive of the Dairymen's Association . in conference. Discus sion lasted until one o'clock, when the conference adjourned until two o'clock. The conference was re sumed but no. .finality was reached, and the conference was adjourned until 10.30 a.m. to-day (Friday). It was resolved to ask the Minister for Agriculture (Iton. J. Cowan) to attend and act as mediator, and to abide by his decision.

The Duchess donned the uniform of the Guides for the Inspection, and the Duke wore the uniform of the Boy Scouts while inspecting the lads.

OPEN SEASON' FOR OPOSSUMS. Following on representations being made to the Minister of Agriculture by landowners concerning the serious depredations of opossums, an open season - of three months from the beginning of May has been declared. During this period full advantage' will bp taken by shooters and trappers, as the skin of the little furry creature Is much sought after on account of the high prices obtained, and which are likely to be even more remuner ative. A successful night's excursion by the light of the moon means a handsome financial return. It should be borne in mind that it is necessary to procure a licence before marketing the skins of the opossums.

GENERAL NEWS. ROAD REPAIR. Preparations are now being made for the continuance of the bitumen road to Mount Barker, and tenders have been called for the supply and delivery of 2J-in. metal and gravel for the work. Next summer the road should be completed to Mount Barker. The metal for the Bridgewater-Amble side section lias been secured by the department, and deliveries will soon commence. The Mount Barker sec tion will commence at the top of Wind mill Hill, and will continue to the Rest Home corner. Motorists will be more than pleased when this particular sec tion of the Prince's Highway is com pleted, for it is iu a shocking condition at present.
