:'fiwnni:r\"r The Administration. Earl Russell has withdrawn his ob jection to the ratification of the Treaty of Waabington, and there will probably be * *n6 serious hostility to it anywhere. Even Newfoundland, which wa3 most interested in the fishery question, does not oppose the settlement. There is, indeed, a certain Canadian settlement which is not favora ble, but it cannot defeat the treaty. The Democratic Senators who voted against it in Washington have merely revealed the Bpirit of a party which would prevent the healing of. an international breach even by a treaty which is-not only in the highest sense a treaty of peace between the two leaders of constitutional. liberty among ' nations, but is an advantage to tbe whole i Vworld.-' Indeed, the Treaty of Washing ton is unique among great treaties for the universal confidence which it inspires that it is not a truce but a .satisfactory settle ment. A year ago there ^vas undoubtedly : a very general conviction, not unmin...

The ghastly ring of the viewless swords, and the . clash of tne spectral spears. We think with Imperious questionings of the brothers that we have lost, — And we strive to track in death's mystery the flight of each valiant ghost. ^ Tricks at Tammany* To any one who is in any degree familiar With the history of this country during the last fiiteen years, the performance ar Tammany Hall on the Fourth of July was exquisitely comical. Mr. William M. Tweed announced that the Democratic party, whose chief lead rs for four years desperately struggled to destroy the gov ernment, now propose \" to wrest it-from the hand& of those who, in our opinion, , - are betraying it.\" Mr Tweed may take heart.' The handfPthat hol^l the govern- merit are those that saved it. The hands ' . that tried to betray it were not, we be lieve, those of General Grant nor of the Republican party.' Mr. Tweed proceeds to remark that he and his party friends hope also to take the government from \" those who are trying to cru-ih out fill principles of equality, liberty, arid tolera tion.\" Now as Mr. Tweed and his friends . are Democrats, and as his party has always shown its regard for equality by , bitterly Opposing the equal right...
