THE HAYTI HERALl latest In drlnki, at n. Or if you beep (or your the stock is Uyou call tf VOL. 7. HAYTI, MISSOURI, THURSDAY, JUNE 17, 1915. N& Your Dog Tax. At its last meeting the board of oldormoii made an order to en force the dog law, and from the start that has been made, those who own dogs had just as well prepare for what is coming. There is no use to get mad, curse or bemean anybody. It is the law of our city that people who own dogs must pay a tax on them, and failing to do so, dogs running at large without the tax being paid will be killed. Posters have been placed over town giving warning that the tax must be paid by July 1. After that, dogs upon which tax is de linquent and which are found running at large upon the streets, will be killed. If you can and will keep your dog up, of course you will not be forced to pay the tax, but any one having a good dog, it seems, would be glad to pay the tax for the protection of their dog, and also as a means of ridding the town ...

Something of tlio value of our land may be judged from the profits made on alfalfa. For some time we have been talking to the different alfalfa growers, and we j iind that a net protlt of &20 to $'15 per acre is realized, 'lhis would make our land values easily run three to tour hundred dollars per aer?. Take, for in stance, land rentals, eight to ten dollars per acre, out of which the owner must pay taxes and keep up improvements and this land is valued atone numireci 10 one hundred and tifty dollar per acre, and is actually paying less than eight per cent on the investment. If land worth one hundred dol lars per acre can be rented for only eight dollars per aero, or eight per cent, then alfalfa land paying twenty to thirty-live per cent should be worth just that much more. Taking this into consideration, now is the time to buy land. Good, unimproved land can ...
