There are s large nnmbcr of trunk line corporations like the C. B. & Q-, Chicago & Northwestern, the .Mil waukee & St. Paul, anil many other-, whose piock is worth iu the market more than dollar for dollar. It is therefore no inducement for these roads to exchange their stock for mu nicipal bond, or, in other words, to accept local subsidies, so called, which, iu the instances cited, become a burthen rather than an aid, except as thev can use them iu the extension of of branches under new corporate names.
