Having spent most of the past month at the public shearings and meetings of the wool growers, this question has been constantly asked me, and I have 4 made such answer as, according to the best of my In formation, would subserve the truth. I thiuk no person can suy confidently Just what wool will be worth a month hence, or what price farmers ought to Insist upon, but so far as I have any opinion to express, I will give it, under the above qualifi cation. In the first place, as t& the causes which will affect prices this season. Tho pending tariff measure agreed up on by the Joint Committee of the Na tional "Wool Growers' and National Manufacturers' Associations, can oper ate only prospectively. The bill has not, at this writing, been reported to Congress by tho Committee of Ways and Means, so that the ne...

Farmer's Department. Mulching Pear Trees. The pear tree abstracts from the soil 5 very large amount of water, parting with it at the surfaces of its leaves, de trositlnc durlnir it9 bassnce the mat ters held In solution, to form trees, fruit, etc. We have all noticed that a continuous Btream of lukewarm water noon causes the substance upon which It falls to become much heated j and thus In summer the sun falling on the earth around a war tree, naturally trlvps to its water a lartre amount of heat. Although, owing to the small amount of such water which would comparatively pass into other kinds of trees, they might not be injured ; yet with the near tree the quantity is bo large that it stiffens the vegetable al bumen of the sap, from the great ae cumulation of heat, and prevents the rosy and natural flow to the termini of the tree, causing summer blight, etc. All this- Is easily prevented by a slight mulching. ' It should be remem bered, however, before severe weather in the fall, t...

Farmer's Department. Moving Bees. It Is considered a difficult niatdr to move bet p. short dUtance after they have once marked their location. . il they are moved In a less distance than mile, when they leave the hive they arJ apt to retorn to their location and be loat. If iho apiarian only wishes to remove thorn a few foet It must be done gradually, by moving them a foot or two each day, until they ate located as desired.
