There is on i6timation of having a pension office establish'd at New 'Orleans. Buffalo gnats have invaded Tensas parish in large numbers, and are said to be killing stock. The firemen's parade and ball last Thursday, at New Iberia, was a brilliant affair, and enjoyed by all -who participated. Captain Welch writes us that the civil enginer of the Jeanerette and Abbeville road is to arrive at that place to-day, and that grading will be commenced as soon as he stakes off one mile for work. E:. I. ADDI Elo Proprietor. SATURDAY, APRIL 23, 1887. FOR GOVERNOR: Cen. F. T. Nicholls, OF ASSUMPTION. A heavy rain fell here last tight, the weather cool this morning. Several persons were recently killed by a cyclone which visited Suffolk, Va. The Texas legislature has adoptcd resolutions expressing sympathy with the people of Ireland. A 'party of capitalists at Fort Worth, Texas, have decided to com mnence boring a well in that neigh borhood for natural gas. St. Louis, Mo., was visited by rain and snow on the 18th. It is also stated that rain was falling pretty generally through Missouri, Kansas, Iowa. Indiana, Tennessee, Central and Southern Illinois. We have reports of good ra.ins from all parts of the country, and crops of all kinds in this State, as a general thing, are said to be doing well, and from present prospects the yield will be a satisfactory one.
