SILVER READINGS .a QUEENS TOWN. As announced in our advertising columns the first part of a series of iilver readings was given on Friday last, 18th inst,in the Mechanic's Insti. tute, Queenstown, and, in spite of the unfavourable appearance of the weather which kept many would-bevisitors away must be pronounced to have been a success, the room being fairly filled. At the appointed hour the President of the Institute, Mr. D. Smith, took the chair; and after a few brief remarks"called on Mr. R. J. Harris to commence the proceedings, who did so by reciting " Lochinvar." He was followed by the Misses Louisa and Laura Noisette, who sang very sweetly " Where is my wandering boy to-night." Miss Rose Albert then recited "The ship on fire." Mr. Martin followed with an amusing reading, "Curran and the Judge." Mr. (. Von Zeigler then favoured the com pany by singing "Australia the Golden." Miss M. A. Beare recited " Where are they now." Miss Laura Noisette sang " Won't you buy my pretty flowe...
