(-olonel Kemball with 400 of the West African froutierforee, has been despatched against the Emirs of Kontagora and Bida, two of the largest slave raiders in Northern j Nigeria. ' Five thonsand natives fonght des perately outside Kontagora, re peatedly charging to within 30 yards of the maxims, bnt they were ultimately routed with heavy losses. The large cities of Kontagora and Bida are now occupied and garri soned and new rulers have been installed. The British loss was nominal and over 1,000 slaves were released.
