Arbor Day and Official Opening. MAPLETON STATE SCHOOL. On Friday. June Sth. the Minister for' Public Instruction 'Mm. J. Hul ham), accomp-inled oy the Head Mis ter of the Nambour Rural School (Mr. R. W. M. Steele) visited Mapiston for the purpose of performing the cere mony of officially opening the new portion of the school. The visitors arrived by car about 11 a.m. ana were met by Lie cnairman and treasurer of the school comrnitiee. the head teacher of the Mapleton school, and taken for a trip to the Mapleton Falls. The party returned to the Hotel at sjr-on when the -»i?itors were entertained at dinner by the mem bers of ths school committee. The Flaxlon school committee was repre sented by Messrs. Swain and Dixon. After dinner the party wore escorted to the school where the Minister made a brief inspection of the agricultural plot and witnessed with great Interest a demonstration in fruit-packing given by a number of the senior pupils. Gunn it a. conference of the Work ers' Educational Assroiation hold at the Melbourne University on Saturday af ternoon last. The existence of unem ployment, the lecturer siad, was a sign of the maladjustment or nonad lustment of the economic system. There were three classes of unemployed: — Those who could not work on account of an infirmity; a small percentage who would not work, and they were not al ways found at the bottom of society; and the big division of those- who want ed work but- could not get it.
