Juvenile Ball. [Newspaper Article] — The Canowindra Star — 14 June 1901

Juvenile Ball. The unqualified success, socially and financially of the late ball held in the local School of Arts in aid of the funds of the Romau Catholic Church was rivalled only by that of the j uvenile ball which took place on the succeeding night and for the same object. A very large number of boys and girls presented themselves and enjoyed the evening heartily from the moment the music commenced, about 8 o'clock, till the con clusion of supper at 11.30, .when they retired from the scene, and the adults devoted themselves to the dance until about 2 o'clock when the proceedings terminated. That the attendance was very large may be gauged from the fact that about £12 was takeu at the door. The music gave every eftisf action, aud was supplied by Mrs. J. H. Marshall, Miss Clyburn, and Miss Courts. These ladies contributed largely to the success of the evening, as did also the energetic and highly efficient Ms.C, Messrs. Hart, McCloBky, aud C. Ayrton. The task of these gentlemen wa...

Horses' Teeth. [Newspaper Article] — The Canowindra Star — 21 June 1901

Horses' Teeth. The horse has 40 teeth, and the mare, as a rule, only 36, the four canine teeth being wanting. Occasionally mares have the tushes or canine teeth developed, this taking placo at different times. An old ' saw ' states that this is indicative of a mare's incapacity to breed, but in reality it has nothing to do with it. The horses' teeth consist of the following : Twelvo incisors, or front teeth, 6 in each jaw ; four tushes or canine teetli, two in each jaw ; 24 molars, twelve in each jaw. six on each side. As a rule, at birth a foal has two cen tral incisors. If not, they will appear in a day or two. From 14 to 21 days the two middle teeth, i*e., the two next on each side of the incisors, develop, and in about two months after appearanco they become level. The third teeth on the outside of thq incisors or corner teeth are generally level with the others at about 8 months. Little change takes place iu the teeth for some months. At one year the cups have left the centre t...
