THE TARIFF. Hon. Members of the House of Repre sentatives are still plodding away at the tariff, and from all appearances are likely to be dning so for some time to come. This is to bu regretted, because in the interim trade must, to a certain extent he paralysed or crippled. The debate on the tariff in commitiea has become so monotonous now that the public has apparently lost uU interest in it. The Leadnr of the Opposition himself seems to have got eick of it for we are told that he has been relieved of the duty of watohing by Sir William McMillan Some five or six pages of exemptions have been proposed by hon members under the head of metals and machinery, ami strangn to say after time was wasted in debating them hon. members woke up to the fact that they had been previously dealt with.
