OUR SANDY'S CREEK LETTER. Tuesday, Sept. 5. [Newspaper Article] — Bairnsdale Advertiser and Tambo and Omeo Chronicle — 7 September 1882

OUR SANDY'Y CREEK LETTER.     (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)               spirits. He was undermining a bank of earth, not more than five or six feet in depth, and incautiously left no pillar at the corner of his face, but went on undermining ahead, when it suddenly gave way from a treacherous seam, jamming him against the opposite bank, it being what is known in mining as the first chamber or cut for a face. He must have been killcd instantly; his mate, Mr. R. Bowden, who was further up the cut, must have also been killed had the whole face given way. I happened to be at Boggy Creek on the day of the acci dent, and while conversing with Mrs. Cross at the door of her house, a dog, or rather a slut, of the Smithfield cooley breed, an old favorite and greatly attached to poor Cross, jumnped up on its hind legs, pawing the air and howling or crying, with that dirge-like ...

OUR TAMBO CROSSING LETTER. Tuesday, Sept. 5. [Newspaper Article] — Bairnsdale Advertiser and Tambo and Omeo Chronicle — 7 September 1882

OUR TAMBO CROSSING LETTER. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Tuesday, Sept. 5. I am pleased to be able to give some satisfactory news of the Haunted Stream reefs. Mr. Duncan M'Dougall was out there yesterday with rations for Messrs. Tierney and Brodribb, and found that on their commencing to sink on the larger reef they discovered that it was fully 10 feet in width, instead of 4 feet as at first appeared. As the stone shows gold freely throughout, it seems probable that the promoters will be well rewarded, although, unfortunately, the original prospector has not lived to benefit by it. Messrs. Johnston and Sandy's reef is also looking well, and they have en- gaged Mr. George Lucas, from Swift's Creek, and others to help in opening it up. I expect that several of the men now en- gaged on the Tambo Valley road will start prospecting up the Haunted Stream on the completion of the contracts, and there will shortly be a busy crowd of workers in that lately deserted solitude. I am also glad t...
