DISTRICT NEWS. WARWICK. [Newspaper Article] — The Darling Downs Gazette and General Advertiser — 19 January 1860

DISTRICT NEWS. WARWICK. (From our correspondent)   The Celestial, "Gentleman John", the notorious horsestealer whom your readers may have see figur- ing in the Brisbane papers, was arrested last week through the vigilance of the Brisbane police. It ap- pears the prisoner was tried for robbery in Brisbane, and the evidence not being conclusive he was dis- charged ; but the police, examining the hue and cry, identified him as "Gentleman John," for whose ap- prehension several warrants had been issued. He left Warwick on Sunday morning in charge of Constable McMullen, en route for Tenterfield, where the first charges will be preferred against him.   The crops are looking delightful; grass and water in     abundance. Potatoes, 9s. per cwt.; onions, 3d. per pound.
