Gregson replied   to the arguments, of the learned Attorney General quoting several authorities in sup. port to the demurrer. He maintained that no action for libel complained of was one of the nets of the Commissioner of the Insol- vent Court-who as Judge of that Court,   was authorised in adopting the course he had done. The act was a judicial one. The learned Couusel quoted from Archbold, and   other authorities to support of the right of the Commiaaiouer to insist upon the payment ot his fees. -Shewing that the refusal to do so was a contempt of'Court. SOUTH AMERICA OUR dates are from Callao to April 12th,and from Valparaiso to March 31 st. CHILI. The trial of the political prisoners in San- tiago is not over. On the 30th March the Fiscal demanded that sentence of death be passed on Garfios, Larrain, and Merino. The pnblie are still kept in the dark relative to tbis affair, and it is not generally believed that any public conspiracy exists. TELEGRAPHIC COMMUNICATION BETWEEN CHILI AND EUROPE.-The Press at Santiago discusses a project for forming a telegraphic j line between the Pacific and the Atlantic, from Valparaiso to some point on the river | Platte, and from thence to Brazil, where it is t» connect with a line projected from Lisbon to Bio Janciio. It is said that European capitalists will construct the line if the Gov- ernment will guarantee them six per cent, on the cost.
