It'6;bad enough for th6 workmen and. the citizens.generally in the big centres to have to pay' more for their food and their '* travelling when the state revenue ,is so enormous, but the people' in the country hare to suffer most. The produce going to the markets has to pay more, and the increase is passed on to the consumer, and . He gives another. groan at the high! cost of living; But primary producer hasn't any tray of raising hie income to meet the in v crease. He will pay more for his tools and maotiinery; his boots ? and his cloths,' and obtain the usual price for his potatoes and fruit, wHile the toiler in tho city will go to ./ -wagesboarda and show that the cost of liv. log has gone up in consequence of high rai l way rates; So^aen the . campaign is in awing lie had better ask the Labor ?--ctindidates what their Government has done with all the money. Rhodes Grass. [Newspaper Article] — Raymond Terrace Examiner and Lower Hunter and Port Stephens Advertiser — 29 August 1913

Rhodes Grass. . Testimony to the value of Rhodes grass which was given by Mr. J. H. Morrison, a member of the Nimbin branch of tho Agricultural 'ureau, is all the .more interesting because it seems to put Rhodes almost alongside paspalum for certain soils on the North Coast. Mr. Morrison does not mention what class of soil he tried Jthe. .seed on, but the Acting Under Secretary, in discussing ' the .report of the. branch's meeting, stated that it was. possible that on a good: deal of pine country Ehodes grass would do as well, as paspalum. ! It is about two years sinco Mr. Morrison decided to give this grass a trial and purchased 101b of seed. Not knowing the high germinating capacity of the seed he sowed (after a lire) about 51b on one acre; ' and it came away as thick as it could grow.' Tho other 51b of seed was mixed with paspalum,' and scattered over about 15 acres — or about one third pound of Rhodes grass per acre, j He goes on : ' I have, heard it said that paspalum will crus...

The Separator. [Newspaper Article] — Raymond Terrace Examiner and Lower Hunter and Port Stephens Advertiser — 29 August 1913

The Separator. Discussing baud ver&us power se paration of cream from milk in his Book, ' Dairying in Australia,' the dairy expert points out ?- that the former is quite as efficient as the latter, provided the person /who is turning the wheel of the hand sepa rator'inaintaius a uniform speed tuat is sufficiently high. ' There is no gainsaying the fact that a large quantity of butter fat is retained in the. separator milk through speed in the working of hand separators.' At tho same time the fat .is not altogether lost, because every farmer now utilises the sepa rated milk for the puspose of feeding calves and pigs, and while the cheque from the factory is .smaller than it need be, the calves show better con dition and the pigs no ' doubt give better returns. In which forui this unsejjarated cream is of most value is a question the calculating, dairyman will prob ably paefer to wor.k out for himself. It is ou tho separation of the milk '.twice a day, however, that moslrcm-. ...

Football. [Newspaper Article] — Raymond Terrace Examiner and Lower Hunter and Port Stephens Advertiser — 29 August 1913

Football. For the first time for a number of years a Raymond Terrace football team has managed to run into the final match of the season. They met and defeated the Royal Blues on the Albion' Ground on Saturday, the scores being ^ points to 8. The Blues were looked upon as being 'snaps' for the competition, as'; thev had ^ only been defeated once previously, and that was by Raymond Terrace on the . Market Reserve in the first romid. The 1 game ou Saturday was of a very frieudlyY nature, and was devoid of all signs of ' roughness, and much appreciated by the large number of spectators.
