DEATH OF MR. E. SMITH. [Newspaper Article] — Yea Chronicle — 12 May 1892

DE.TE OF M3. E. SMITH. ONE of the oldest resdents of the Yea dis trict, Mr. Edward Somi;h, after a long illness of five or six months, gossad away on Sun day morning. He wasthe first to take out an auctioneer's liceneu, in Yea, and some years ago carried onan extensive businessat Seymour, Mooroopna, Shepparton, and Na gamble, frequently conducting large land sales on behalf of tihe Government. That this was so might be learnt from the reception accorded Mr. Hunt, who was met by over a hundred representative men on his arrival, the distriqt for many miles round sending dele gates to do honor to the occasion. On the arrival of Sharpe's coach, by which Mr. Hunt travelled, resounding cheers were given by the assembled delegates, and the only drawback was, that there was not a room sufficiently commodious at Stillman's Hotel to accommodate all. Those who could find room...
