Decoration Day . There is no holiday observed by the Ameiican people that expresses nobler sentiments and is more anxiously looked fotward to than Decoration Day ; and , as the custom is here , early in the morning of that clay when yet the greater number of the inhabitants of the doimitories and suirounding neighborhood were enjoying the last moments of sleep , the blasts of hoins of all description aiouscd the sleepeis and announced to them from a number of windows that the day upon which the nation pays special tribute to hei heroic dead had dawned . Fiom this eaily hour throughout almost the entire day might be seen crowds of vistors making their annual pilgnmage to this historic town to honor the memory of the dead heroes and decoiate their giaves with flowers . The exercises here yesteiday were especially appropriate and impressive since they weie held on the greatest battlefield on the American continent , and several of the geneials who more than thirty five years ago were e...

_ATHUETIC NEWS . INDIANS 3-GE 1 TYSBURG I . The prettiest game of the season was seen on Nixon Field last Saturday , when the Carlisle Indians defeated us by the close score of 3 to 1 . The pitchers on both sides did good work , and received full support . Roehner pitched a slow ball to the Indians which they found impossible to hit safely , and every one on the team backed him up , Le Roy is one of the best pitchers the Indians have ever had . The Song Contest . After careful and deliberate examination into the merits of the dozen or more songs submitted , the committee has awarded the prize to L . S . Weaver , 99 , whose production : the Orange and the Blue , is preeminently a college song , and combines excellent sentiment with popular melody . Special mention should- be made of a song submitted by J . B . Baker , 00 , entitled , Heigh Oh ! Heigh Oh ! The writer very admirably works in the College yell , and thereby gives us a song that will be particularly popular in our future games and other contests _, hope to publish this production in a future issue . As a rule , the songs were very good and those who inaugurated the contest have reason to feel highly gratified over the results . The College community owes no small debt of gratitude to the loyal alumnus » lio so generously offered the prize . ( R . D Clare , 00 . Committee ¦] Henry Albers , 99 , L . A . Weigle , 90 .

BECAUSE of a delay in securing some of the material for this issue , we have found it necessary to make a change in the order of the different divisions of the paper . The change is not a permanent one . THE preliminary debates next Friday night in the two societies will be of interest to the students because there are the first of their kind held here for a number of year * . Since debating has taken the place of lit erary society work in most of the larger universities we should note with care the success of these first contests . The fact that a ten dollar prize has been offered will doubtless spur on the contestants , to do good work . The result of this will furnish not only an interesting but profitable program . WE note with much satisfaction and encouragement the great num ber of our graduates who have become the leaders in their work in the ministry , as the report of any ecclesiastical organization such as the General Synod now in convention at York shows . We all _Jiave ,...
