The early risers Lf our Town were greeted yesterday morning with a rather novel sight, for these times of, peace and quiet. Second street, from the Second Ward to the Town Hall, was well guarded by armed men on duty, which on inspection proved to be the Kellogg Metropolitans. They reached Pineville about one o'clock, yesterday morning, f r o m Harrison burgh, and at once cros ed over the river in skifts and the butchers' tlats, prevecting the butchers from con ing to Market till they all had been safely over. Their horses were left in Pine ville. Thus far they have been leis urely loitering around Town, on their good behavior, and nave made no ar rests. 'Mr. Pendleton. on nearing the front of the platform, was welcomed with round after round of hearty applause. lie said : M!I' Fellow-Citizens--It d oes one's heart good to witness a scene like this. [Rcnewed cheers]. It is very proper that powder should be burned, that rockets should rise, that fires should iunr and illuminate to testify that our hcarts heat quicker and our blood flows more rapidly at the results of the last electiou. [Great cheering]. It w as not my good fortune to be able to take part as nmuch as usual in the canvass. But I made a little speech at Mozart Hiall one night, as some of you will re memlwr, and I want you now to bear ine witness that I told the people of Cincinnatti the truth here-as I always desire to do-when I said that William Al in would be the next Governor of Ohio. New York ALEXANDRIA. LA." Wednesday,...November 19, 1573. ConRRECTION.-In our remarks, last week, in the H-amp. Henderson af fair, we were slightly inaccurate in soire of the facts, which prove the Hickmans entirely free from any complicity, at any time, with the in famous wretch, who has paid dearly the penalty of his crime. Thomas Hickman never did go on his bond. Hamp. was examined in this Town, before Justice Fox, at that time Jus tice of the Peace, J. H. C. Barlow for the prosecution and H. S. Losee for the defence. The case was dismiss ed for want of evidence. No bond was required and none given. The Grand Jury of Grant afterwards found a true bill against .Hamp. for murder and rape, and he was bailed out, his father and brother being his bondsmen-a straw bond. THAT TREPOR'TER.-The Ozark...

The Republican e wspape r. The tone and style of this paper's re ferences to that largo class of our citi zens who oppose and denounco t he usurping government of this State, ex pose a diabolical audacity and malig nity which exceed all bounds of news paper license. The great body of the white popula tion of this State are daily insulted and reviled in the columns of a paper sup ported by the taxesextorted from them, as a mere band ,f offlice seekers, as ef fe t o pretenders to a respectability which, is tictitious as lacking in capac ity, and unworthy to exercise any ofi the rights of freemen, and only fit to; be governed by carpet-bag plunderers and their negro tools. Age, intelli genee, long residence, moral worth and I wealth, are held up in. its coluons as I disqualifieations for public ofilce, for l even the right to participate in or in- 1 flience the government of the State. < The triumph, by whatever means, of I the Radical faction, is assumed to be the ostracism of all ...
