The R-v. Delos Fink who appears to be at the head of the anti-Utah literary department of the Presbyterian Board of Home Missions is traveling through the ' eastern states giving magic lantern lectures in Presbyterian churches on "Mormonism a Despotism within a Republic." This lecture is published in book form which with 69 magic lantern slides he will loan for $1.50 per night to anyone who will blander Utah and give the proceeds to the Presbyterian Board of Home Mis sions. The money thus obtained is to redeem Utah from its awful condi tion of "treason, despotism aiurchy, and crime." On Jan. 28th in the First Presby- Jterian c...

sl """" T RU THS". , . o Hut little progress is being maiW by the legislature in regard to the t University and Agricultural College hill. Neither those for or against consolidation sqcm eager to tackle it. Something, however, will have to be A M done with it in a very few days. The i most favored plan at present is that , advocated by Representative Tolton l and others to leave the two institu- i tions separate and distinct, but to de- I fine clearly the branches of learning, to be taught in each institution so that there will be no duplication of studies. It is proposed to confine the college to a high schuol course anC those subjects strictly pertaining to agriculture and to eliminate from the University curriculum the normal course which really corresponds to a high school course. This looks a very feasible way of settling the dif ficulty. The great trouble in the past has been the duplication of stud ies by the two institutions. The dispatches toil us that on Feb ruary 28th, th...

of "Roosevelt Senator.'' Other who have "lined up" in support of the President's policies arc Guggenheim, Borah, and Brown. Paynler, Jeff Davis, and "Fiddling Bob" Taylor will bring to the Senate no noticeable reverence for the tradi'ion that that j body is the most conservative on earth. Any hasty assertion that the cor poration fighters arc having their day must be avoided in discussing the new Senators. It is true that Millard of Nebraska, who gives way to Attorney-General Brown, is a loss to the Western railroads, and Dixon of Montana, who takes Clark's scat, appeals to the people rather than to the mine owners and land magnates for support. But in swapping "Old y Perplexity" Patterson, whose brow has been wrinkled by long search for invective to luril against corpora tions, for Simon Guggenheim, Colo rado has gone back under the yoke of the big business interests. The causes which have impelled the majority of would-be suicides arc set down as destitution, the aftermath of wrong-doing, lone f liuess, and uuhappiucss.
