Views of the Press Below. [Newspaper Article] — Sacramento Transcript — 1 August 1850

Views of the Press Below. We take the following admirable remarks, relative to our Levee, from the Aha California of Tuesday, and recommend them to the careful perusal of our citizens: •Sacramento Affairs. — Although the courteous conductors of the Sacramento press have somewhat gingerly enquired into our motives for questioning the propriety of certain public measures that are "all the talk" in their famous burg and its environs, we must persist that it is our pleasure to overhaul their works occasionally, for which conduct we hope always to have good and sufficient reasons, even if we never nientios them. Tiie jarrings and bickerings among tbe city authorities of Sacramento, constitute uot the greatest source of evil and annoyance to her interests ; but we leave that matter entirely in the hands of our cotemporaries iv that city. What her good citizens would most earnestly desire to see, are, some signs of promise that their interests are to be protected against destruction by ove...

Meeting of the Common Council. [Newspaper Article] — Sacramento Transcript — 1 August 1850

Meeting of the Common Council. THE LEVEE. By the following report of the proceedings of the Council last evening, it will be seen that the long talked of Levee is now in a fair way of being begun. The manner in which the matter was spoken of by all of the members, shows that the subject is at last commanding that attention which it has merited. We hope that the interest now manifested by the Council is only the forerunner of a speedy commencement and vigorous prosecution of this work. Wednesday Evening, July 31. Council met pursuant to adjournment. Present; the President and Messrs. Moore, McDowell, Pettit, Spalding, Mackenzie, Tweed and Queen. On motion of Aid. Pettit, reading of the minutes of previous meeting deferred. A petition from C. C.
