Bulk Handling. (Continued from last issue). [Newspaper Article] — Ouyen Mail — 17 April 1918

Wheat was rarely handled or graded in the country but only in the very big centres. The average Australian was cleaner and better than       either Canadian or American wheat.         As to the price of bags he was willing to forfeit a sum to some charit- able institution if he could not prove that bags, over a term of years, cost the farmer nothing. From the Front. [Newspaper Article] — Ouyen Mail — 24 April 1918

From the Front. Lance-Corporal H. J. Wiltshire writes :-Dear Editor,-I have re ceivediseveral parcels of Onyen MaIsz at intervals. I got one lot of three posted in August, one posted in October, and one posted in Novem ber (with the account of the Murray ville Show in it. I may say that the papers posted by you are the only local papers I have received since leaving Australia. By the way, that is an idea the local Bed Cross League and others might look into. Noth ing is more interesting to us exiles than a local paper occasionally. I received, up to date, two parcels sent me by the unrrayville Red Cross Society, for which I desire to express my best thanks. I eea the Farmers' Union nominee, Mr Stew art, is our M.L.A. now. Well, I wish him all success, but I must say that our end of the Mal!es nwe, . lot to the retiring member, Hon. J. Gray, although he made some had mistakes. I think the seed wheat biz. settled him. Tiega Tips. [Newspaper Article] — Ouyen Mail — 24 April 1918

Tiega Tips. Somewhat late, but it is stilt good. A ple'sant function tvs held at Tiega State school on Wednesday, i.3th nit. The parents and school commnittee met to assiet in the ceremony of hanging an en larged photo. of Sergt, N. P. LeConteur, formerlv teacher at the school, who is now " somewhere in France," doing his tit. Suitable speeches were made by l~essrs Hoare, Morrish and Ellis, and Miss BIoch responded neatly for the school. The children were regaled with a picnic and thoroughlyen joyed themselves, as did. those oi larger growth. It was a happy time, and su?it do a lot of good. The district rabbit inspector seems to share with Mr Kenyot the'opinion that there are no rab bits in this part of the State. We have not seen him on the north end of Tiega re?rve this year. Beurr-r is very plentiful, and despite the efforts of settlers to. cope with him on their block, he keeps them busy from the reserve. If the inspector does not wake up someone should buy him a Big Ben, as thi...

Local and General. [Newspaper Article] — Ouyen Mail — 24 April 1918

Local and General. Settlers out West, more especially Sin the vieinity of Mnrrayville, com i plain bitterly of the inroads of rab Sbits from adjoining reserves. These, they .very rightly claim, shonId be either kept clear of the pest or, else thrown open, so that someone may directly be made responsible for keeping the pest down. Some of the reserves are very small, but others are big enough for selee tions, while the timber is a negli gable qunantity. It seems reas~on able to ask for some definite action. Murrayville has a remarkably fine roll of honor, and it is placed in a most con.picuous position. But, un!es- we are wrongly in formed, there are still some names omitted. The man who volun teered in good faith but failed to p,:ss the 'uli tesrt is certrinly entitled to recognition, even ifsome distitle t'e sign is placed against his name. We commend. the suggestion to those who are accountable for the board and its upkeep. * Mnlrravville has initi.,ted a splen jdid :cleam inhe wa...

Murrayville Moves. [Newspaper Article] — Ouyen Mail — 24 April 1918

Murrayville Moves. AS the monthly meeting of Wal-   peup Shire Council on Thursday last, a strong and representative deputation of public men of Murray- ville waited on the councillors. Cr. Hecht introduced the deputation, for whom Mr. C. W. Anderson was the principal speaker. Mr. Anderson said the most im- portant item was the formation of the footpaths. In a rising town, such as Murrayville undoubtedly was, decent footpaths were an absolute necessity, and he hoped definite action would be taken to form the paths of the principal streets. The, President (Cr. Pickering) said he   could safely promise that the work would be taken in hand within three months, but property owners must understand that one-half of the cost of forming and kerbing had to be borne by them.--Mr. Anderson thanked the council for the promise, and said, they quite understood and were willing to stand their share of the cost. The next request was for at least two additional lamps in the...
