Taking Stock. [Newspaper Article] — Morwell Advertiser — 14 March 1890

Taking Stock. TEnrE anre thousands of retail storekeepers w'ho never think of taking account of stock at the end of the year and of liguring up what they have on hand. They merely go from year to year, replenishing their stock when they run out of a certain article. and pay no particular attention to what they have on hand except 'when they get out of it. This is a very poor way for a retailer to conduct his business, no asatter if it is a small one. There are many things that accumulate upon his hnnds that are thrown into obscure corners, become dusty, discolored, shopworn. moth.eaten, and often absolutely worthless from neglect and forgetfulnes on his part. If he would take an account of stock and turn over every thing in his store, rearranging his goods. It would bring such articles out of their obscurity. He could put them upon the bargain counter and work them oft for something instead of allowing them to becoine ultimately worthless upon his hands. A merchant should never allo...
