Myrtle Creek. [Newspaper Article] — Wellington Times and Agricultural and Mining Gazette — 29 April 1891

Myrtle Creek. [By OLD HOSS] Whilst myself and stable companions were journeying to Stanley this morning, heavily laden with a load of spuds we endeavoured to get a drink at Myrtle Creek, but to this proceeding our master objected, saying, (if I understood him rightly) that it would be dangerous for us all if we went in with the load, as there is a deep and dangerous hole on the other side through which we could not pass. So we had to journey on and go without water till our return. Now, I think this very hard for us poor horses, as we would be quite agreeable to cart a few stones to fill up the hole. Our master said we had better lay our case before the road trust, remarking that he had every reason to believe they would comply with our wishes. As we thought your valuable paper 'The Wellington Times,' would be a great help to us in laying our case before the board if enterprising and obliging gentlemen we ask you to be kind enough to grant us space for tho same. Thanking you in anti...

Correspondence. Irish Town Road. (TO THE EDITOR.) [Newspaper Article] — Wellington Times and Agricultural and Mining Gazette — 29 April 1891

CORRESPONDENCE IRISH TOWN ROAD TO THE EDITOR   Sir,— I notice 'one or two letters lately with regard to the above road, strongly con- deming the Minister of Lands and the Public Works Department generally. The delay In the construction of this road has no doubt caused much annoyance, but I think it only just to let the public know that the delay, I believe, was owing to strong objections being raised by certain gentlemen to the work being carried out this year, and not to the carelessness of either the Minister or the department. In conclusion I would say that as far as the Duck River district is concerned we have found that Mr. Pillinger has always paid prompt attention and given his ready acquiescence to any work that the District Improvement Committee have brought under his notice, and that he could see would be of distinct benefit to the district and colony generally. Yours, &c, H. M. RIVETT CARNAC Chairman, Duck River District Improvement Association. [The ...
