The White Labour Question. Part II. [Newspaper Article] — Chronicle and North Coast Advertiser — 1 April 1904

The White Labour Question. By W. A. HORE. Part II. The State control of the Moreton Mill, to be followed by other mills eventually, is highly probable— only a matter of time. For the State to abandon the mills or to attempt to realize on the mortgages or attormnents would prohably be sis be fore in the history of the sugar industry, j the machinery rnsted scran iron, or ner- i haps sold for one-third prime cost, whilst a forced sale 911 the district farms on a market now already Jjl«tted would be equally futile. Experience, too, will in time prove thai unless the refining is under taken by the State, it is impossible to fix save at a loss to all concerned the price of cane. Besides it is clear to those who have studied the subject that the sugar ind...

Weather Forecast. [Newspaper Article] — Chronicle and North Coast Advertiser — 1 April 1904

Weaither Forecast. Mr. J. C. Ogg. one of Queens land's long-range weather fore casters, forecasted last year as follows : — April 1 to ;r. — Conditions on the whole will show a decided equili brium and the superb weather that is anticipated to prevail will be much appreciated 1-3* most folk who ere this will have grown weary of the excessive damp weather. A drop in temperature that will catise a chilly air and mists to steal aver valleys and hollows in the evenings, together with the lengthened shadows, followed by the silvery soft moonshine of the brilliant full moon, and finall}- the morning sparkling1 dewdrops, should doubt less appeal to the minds of the in telligent, and arouse those emo- ! tional feelings peculiarly known to the soul only. To one and all it will nevertheless be but nature's unswerving reminder that this fair State is now plunged into autumn, [ and bidding good-bye to another j summer. Towards the close of this week rising thermometers under ex tensive cloud pa...
