LIVERPOOL COUNCIL Absent from Tuesday night's meeting cf Liverpool Council were Aldermen Killinger, Banks and Cullen. Aid. Banks sent a letter of apology, regretting his j absence and that "a few aldermen car- ried the burden of twelve." He trusted that those in doubt of the genuineness of apologies sent in by aldermen, if cor lectlv reported, were never afflicted by his complaint. On the motion of Aid. Smith and Carpenter, the letter wai received, the mover pointing out that aldermen were only asked to come when they could. A recommendation by the Finance Committee that a further sum of £1000 be borrowed to complete the construc- tion of the Infant. Centre was adopted. Aid. HOCKEY The local Club met and defeated two yams ljom DhraitvüIcnLidconitfc last Saturday. The standard of play was not up to that displayed against St. George. Nevertheless it was good hockey for so early in thc season, but there Ls hard training and plenty of practice needed to hold a prominent position on com- petition ladders. The task of the Grad- ing Committee was made, harder by pitayeVs absenting themselves on Sat- urday. All players are asked to be in attendance and make :t easier for graders and selectors and more satisfactory to themselves and team-mates. Next Sat- urday will be the last special practice, j as cormx starts 24th April. Results of Saturday's games: : A Grade won 4-2. K. Worth (2;, E. McCooey and D. Rix for winners. K. Bailey (2) for the losers. Reserves won 2-0, W. Pantlin and T. Tester being the scorers. The Under 16 Years team journeyed to Banksia and were defeated by St. George lads 4-1.
