THE PROJECTED INTERCOLONIAL RIFLE MATCH. (From the Yeoman, August 30.) [Newspaper Article] — Rockhampton Bulletin and Central Queensland Advertiser — 24 September 1862

TUE PHOJECTKD rXTERtX)LOXljtL j RIFLE MATCH. fFrom tie Yeomam, Af oatt 30.) WE presume tlutt thia match may nim- be considered a« certain to «une uti'; and to come ott', as is most right, in our colony. With reference to the modified pro]»osals to which Xcw South Wales i* preiiared to accede, we may observe, that really the diiVerence between them ami thc original prujiosals of the V. K. A. council is so slight, that it is impossible to doubt that the champions of New South Wales and Victoria will meet at the rifle ranges by Emerald-hill next November. We consider tltat thc addi- tion of thc ranges of 300. OOO, 7tK>, and i 900 yards, to those of 200. 500, and SOO. j originally projiosed by Victoria, is a great improvement, as giving a fuller j test of skill titan would have been I afforded by tho three ranges, and more perfectly getting rid of the chance of ** flukes." Tltis river was dis- j covered, named the ** Donor," and traced to its junction arith the Burdekin, by a JKU-U, i-aasist- I mg of Messrs. Wilkin, Gaden, and Walker, in \ the year 1856. The same party went out u^-uii J in the following year, and traced the Burdekin j to its tide way, wHere their marks may now be j found if not obliterated by some more recent explorers, who may have thought fir to remove j their neighbour's landmark, and try to tvrsuade I themselves, and others, tliat it never aisled. I have even" reason to believe that Mr. Dalrymple was either given or shown & sketch of the Honor country, before he went out on his first expedi tion in" 1859, three years aflea the discovery of the rivers....
