J AMIS SCHOLBTIELl). -Mr. James Scholefield,. the veteran clerk of the Gilbert Dis trict Council, and one of the most highly respected residents of the Jiiverton dis-;, tricf. -died ait Sandal Magna, .Rivertou^' on Friday at 'the age of 83 years aa&i 3 months. Air-lew months ago he had . a severe attack of heart trouble, -and never recovered. For 47 years he held the position of cleric of the Gilbert Dis trict Council, which probably constitutes a- record for continuous service in such a position in the State. He was spec ially complimented by the Government officials on "his coancil work. He was. of a very modest nature _and a thoughtful gentleman. Born at Bullcliffe Hall, Wakefield, Yorkshire, in 1837, on the completion of his college education he was apprenticed to the worsted manu facturing business, and paid a premium of £200 for his training.
