LEAGUE OF THE EMPIRE FUN WITH THE 8HEEP. Dear 'Planets,' — Here I am again. Just one of those bad pennies that writo every bluo moon. Whoever the chap was that invented that saying . must have suffered from, color blind ' ness at times, poor fellow. By Jovo, I'm always- coming thuds. Do you? I mean off a horse, of coarse. I came one last week, and one to-day. Good for ma. We bought some weaner lambs from . a neighbor, and 1 had to go and get them. Among them were some pets which did not want to leave the house, and whan we got them _ about a hun dred yards away from it they broke. You talk about a mess 1 There were I sheep to tho right of us, sheep to the ? left of us; well, in fact, there were sheep all round us. Kids running this way and that, yelling and coo eeing, dogs barking, hens caokling, old ewes bleating in the pen, and best of tho lot was the old chap that owned the » sheep mounted on an old boney charger a that I think came out of the ark. Away he went as nard as tne poo...

Our town is going to play Trangie for tho cup. Nyngan will win! My sister has joined the League, and there is great fun, guessing her pen name. No one has nit upon it so far. Mother ia away, at present, and I am cook. My cooking is criticised from all quarters. I have riot heard from 'Rainbow Gold' or 'Athos' for a long timo. I think they must have deserted t'' or forgotten that there was such a person in the League as 'Ivauhoe.' I would like very much to receive a letter from 'Wandering Jew.' Although I have about seven or eight corries, I would like several more Leaguers ...

Follow Form or Money. THE DRONZILLET COMMISSION. [Newspaper Article] — Country Life Stock and Station Journal — 25 April 1924

Follow Form or Money. THE BRONZILLET COMMlS&iON. Most racegoers regarded the Second Hurdle race as a match between Ben doc and Les Paddington. The former had run Delusion to half a neck when tho course record ifor two miles was set on Monday — and he mado his bin- eil'ort at tho right end. But in the same raco oven more brilliant was the final eii'ort of Jxvs Paddington who was placed fourth. Les was a proved stayer anyhow, and the extra three furlongs of the second race was calculated to favor him. So 7 to 4 Bondoc and 2 to 1 Les Paddington was called when betting opened. Bronzillet at sevens was the only other runner firmer than double figures. Bronzillet had run an inconspicuous race and finished sixth in tho First Hurdle. But when Cecil Godby arid his commissioners went into tho ring there was a spasmodic change in the figures. In a few minutes tho odds against him dropped to one half — to 7 to 2 — whilo 'twos' was on oifor against tho other pair. Some wagers laid agains...

Hard Racing and hs Effect. BACKING CLARO TO BREAK THE AUSTRALASIAN MILE RECORD. [Newspaper Article] — Country Life Stock and Station Journal — 25 April 1924

Hard Racing and Its Effect. BACKING CLARO TO BREAK THE AUSTRALASIAN MILE RECORD. j 'I've emptied right out on Claro — he's the real certainty of the meeting!' declared a professional punter who had just placed £2,000 at 'twos' on the lihiglish chestnut lor tha All Aged Stakes. 'Can't support yoar judgment I' commented a friend, 'Do you realise what you've really done? You've prac tically accepted 'twos' about Claro breaking the Australasian mile record — and smashing it substantially 1' 'How's that?' queried the punter. 'Well, Whittier set 1.36J in the Doncaster with 9.5 on his back — that's the fastest mile ever run in the south ern hemisphere. To-day he has 9.0 to carry — 5 lbs. less. So in1 a small field in which an uninterrupted pas sage is ensured why won't ho break his own record? And if Claro is going to beat him, well ? ' 'Remember the axiom about horses not being machines,' retorted the con fident punter. Whittier had a very severe race in making that rocord and races of th...
