Bodalla Minstrels. On Friday evening, the BodaJIa Amateur Minstrels As advertised, gave aii entertain ment in aid of Dr. Bernardo's Home for des titute children. The Friendly Societies hall was filled to the door, so that the araqpnt realized must .'have been most satisfactory. The building was tastefully decorated with ?flowers, evergreens and flags, and presented a very cheerful and pretty appearance. The first jiart of the programme consisted of the usual Christy songs and comicalities, and were all well tendered, showing plainly how much time and trouble the company must have spent on the rehearsals. Mr. Drew as Tambo, was quite up to his usual matchless standard, and managed to keep the audience in a constant state .of 'laughter, and Mr. J. Matthews as Bones, ably seconded Mr. Drew. Mr. Crayden, interlocutor filled the position admirably, whilst Mr, Rosenberg Acted as accompanist in a careful and finished tuauuer, and contributed in a large degree to the success of the entertai...

Village Fair and Bruce Auction. [Newspaper Article] — The Moruya Times and South Coast Journal — 6 November 1889

Village Fair and Brace Auction. On to-morrow, ^Thursday) at 2 p.m., the grand ' Village Fair ' in aid of the Presby terian Church, will be opened in the Cen tennial Hall ; and the following day a Bruce Auction will commence at 2 o'clock. The number of lines to be submitted is simply legion, and all arc of a superior and practical produce of all kinds. The faithful members of the Church have for some months been hard at work making and procuring articles for the Fair, and from information received from one of the leading liuly helpers we learn that the articles in all departments arc of a useful diameter, and that' the management JiAve decided to sell at a ' fair ' profit only, and not to ask the ridiculous prices that generally rule at bazaars. In predicting a large success for the Bruce auction and Fair, we do not think it is necessary to possess the prescient brains of an Egerson, for on all hands we hear the remark that the Presby terian show will be a big affair, and all appear ...

Tlio President, Mr. R. Anderson, J.P., occu pied the clmir, and in a few well directed remarks urged tlio undoubted claims of Pro tection, pointing out that its adoption by this colony wns the only chance of establishing factories, and thus finding lucrative employ ment for our young men. He referred generally to the great disadvantages we labored under in having heavy duties placed on our produce sent to any of the neighbouring colonies, whilst they could in return send their surplus production to our ports absolutely free. Mr. Harrison referred to the proposed visit of Messrs Brunker and Carrathers, which had been indefinitely postponed, no doubt through the meagre chances of support which it was plain would greet their utterances in this dis trict; at the. same time it behoved us to be ...
