ADELAIDE TELEGRAMS Adelaide, Tuesday evening, I It has been decided by the Govern ment not to be officially represented at Dunedin Exhibition. They hare, been prompted to this oouree for various reasons. They recognise that the State of late has spent excessive sums on exhi bitions, and the Dunedin Exhibition is not of such importance as to warrant a farther expenditure. The exhibition is a private concern, and they are farther influenced by the fact that New Zealand yraa not officially represented at the Adelaide Exhibition. The Premier on Tuesday forwarded a cable to the Agent-General in reference to the decision of the War Office regard ing the appointment of General Downes, Mr Playford requested Sir Arthur Blyth to represent to the Colonial Office how strongly the Government felt on the matter, and to ask for reconsideration, The Council of the School of Mines have "decided for the present not to ap point a permanent secretary. THE BEETALOO MAINS. TO THE EDITOR. [Newspaper Article] — The Kadina and Wallaroo Times — 20 February 1889

THE BEETALOO MAINS. TO THE ED1TOE. SIB,-As 1 see by an advertisement, it , is the intention of the Public Works department to at once proceed with the laying of theBeetaloo mains to Wallaroo via Ksdina. Sir, I would like to point oat what I consider a very great injustice to the farming community on tbe west side of Tickera, as also the other country dis tricts, who haye always been asking for the Beetaloo works, to have to stand by, and see tbe towns supplied before them. I maintain, so far as Wallaroo is con cerned, that there is no need for the water to be carried (unless for rating purposes) into that town, for, as you are folly aware, they have already plenty of water and to spare in nine large Unks, also a large reservoir known as Gepp's, besides dams in park lands. Another matter I wish to draw your attention to, is tbe way in which tbe work is to be done-viz, tbe whole of the work to he embodied in one contract. Several attempts have already been made, and failed, to get tbe...

Xatemt ^CWalktaa ?ims KA.DINA, WEDNESDAY. FEBfiUAEY 20, 1889. THE FEDERAL COUNCIL. THE business of the Federal Council which has just concluded its sittings at Hobart, although, somewhat more animated than it was last year, cannot be pronounced ;<a success. Our repre sentatives were made much of, the former members of the Council evi dently regarding South Australia as a wayward and erring prodigal, who has had ^enough of swine husks, and has Tesolved to wander no more. Our Premier was embraced and the best 3-obe put upon him. And figuratively speaking there was a general slaughter of fatted calves.
