There baa bee a the usual little "ups aud downs" that are always expected in these matters, but everything is in the ascendent sow, and the prospects become more rosy every week. Judging from current cbat the public are looking forward with pleasure to the first appearance of our local club, and a bumper bouse is already assured. The performers are receiving an excellent training, and 'tis whispered that some of them show remarkable talent. The annual meetingof the Trafalgar cricket club will be held in the mechanics' institute next Tuesday evening, 18th mat., commencing at 8.30. Business—To. receive balance sheet, elect office-bearers, &c. Everybody invited. For the White Australia policy, provision is made for paying £278,500 for sugar produced by white labour. The estimate is 199,000 tons of sugar, of which 145,000 tons will bo grown by wbite labour. Up to the present we have paid out £726.000 in this connection. A deputation from the Harwell mechanics' committee applied to the j Minister of Public Works a lew days ago for a special grant towards the building fund.
