_fiecu _Yofk-Cettysbupg Club . The regular May session of the New York-Gettysburg Club was held at the home of President Sell , of the class of 1866 , on Monday evening , May 15 th . Dr . Sell is such a genial , whole souled good fellow and knows so well how to preside at a meeting of the boys , that it is needless to say every Gettysburgian who attended the session had a very pleasant time and greatly enjoyed the kind hospitality of the President . The writer may happen to be over fond of such jolly good times in which good fellowship in the name of Gettysburg is part of the enjoyment , but he believes there are others who will heartily agree with him that much is being missed by those in other sections who might easily come together from time to time in this same social way , bui who , for some unaccountable reason , do not seem to care to do so , Gettysburg Clubs can be made sources of much individual pleasure and profit ; they can be made , and we believe will become , sources o...

The Glee Club Concert . The annual Commencement concert of our musical clubs is being awaited with more than usual interest this year , for the clubs have made a better trip than ev > . r before , and the reports of their performances have been especially creditable . Everywhere they have been pronounced the best clubs Gettysburg ever had , and have been commended for their gentlemanly behavior , so unusual for college men . The boys on both clubs have been working faithfully this year , and the mandolin club , especially , has made rapid strides of progress under the leadership of Mr . Moyer , thus fully demonstrating the advisability of having a coach for this department . Every one remembers with pleasure the delightful concert recently given in Brua Chapel by Mr . Moyer , assisted by this club , and will certainly desire to hear the Commencement Concert when they learn that both clubs are working hard on a program which embodies the best of the years work and some of ...

Pen and _Suiond . There will be a meeting of the society on Thursday evening at 6 . 30 o clock , at which time officers will be elected to serve for the coming year . In addition to this election there will be considered other matters of importance , and it is hoped that every member may be present . The society has , in a quiet way , been doing a great deal during the past year to advance the best interests of the college , but much yet remains to be done , and now is just the time to formulate plans and inaugurate a vigorous and enthusiastic campaign for the year 99 and 00 .

AS the end of the term approaches the usual hard work is being done by the majority of the students . This indeed seems to have been characteristic of the entire term and is not only a cramming for the final examinations . It is the men who faithfully and conscientiously prepare every lessen as it comes fiom the beginning to the end of the term who receive the greatest benefits . Then only will they receive that for which they should be seeking—mental discipline along with broader views , deeper faith , and higher ideals . Too often , unfortunately , these ideals are entirely neglected and the one great object for which often hours , and days , and sometimes years are spent , is only empty marks . BECAUSE of the great demand for the Commencement number of the Geitysuuhgian , we have decided not only to put out an exceptionally large issue this year , but also to increase the number of pages from twelve to eighteen . We shall endeavor to give our readers a full and accurate account o...

ATHLiETIC ] _4 EWS . GcnvsiiUKG 6—r . & si . 4 . Gettysburg defeated Franklin and Mai shall last Saturday on Nixon Field by a score of 6 to 4 in a game which was very pretty and well contested , despite the high wind and chilling air which made good playing very hard . The visitors were shut out until the eighth inning , when a set of bad errors , which could be excused on account of the wind , let in a run , followed in the ninth by three , one of which was earned . Our men did good work at the stick , having ten hits , and bunching in the third , fifth , and sixth innings . Roehner did probably the best pitching of the season , striking out nine men , and allowing the visitors but four hits , which were kept well scattered , in spite of the wind , which made it very hard . Grabill was supported well , and pitched a steady g . tme , but Gettysburg had its batting clothes on , and had to have hits , all of which were clean , and gave us the victory in spite of the fact t...

v . m . c . a . We notice that through some mistake the names of several members of the Association were omitted in the list published in the oo Spectrum . We deeply regret the en or , and ask that those whose names are thus omitted may consider it as a mistake , and not an intentional oversight . The names omitted aie : DeYoe , of the class of 99 ; Grove and Long , of oo ; Bordy , Hartman , Heintzelman , Merdinyan , McClean , McCarney , of 01 ; Culler , Fite , Fleck , Karmany , C . S ., Karmany , M . S ., Koser , Ney , Taylor , Newman , of 02 ; and Maught of Prep . One thing more . The treasury is in an exceedingly bad condition . Bills are coming due , and money is needed to pay them . Will you not kindly aid in this by promptly paying all dues to the association . Of all our student organizations none has so just a claim upon the support of the fellows as the Y . M . C . A ., and as its term dues are very light , the treasury at least should always be in a very healthy condition ...

Joint Society Report . At the joint meeting of Philo and Phrena societies last Friday night action was taken to have the two society leading looms united into one and have it under the control of the college authorities . A petition has been circulated since then among the students and has been most enthusiastically endorsed , asking the Board of Tiustces to establish and manage a college reading room contiguous to the college library , for the support of which they agree to pay to the college treasurer fifty cents _, per term . This amount mil , when judiciously used , furnish about five times the amount of reading material the combined societies have furnished . In addition to having a gieatly increased amount of material the room w ould be , as every reading room should be , the cheeriest , the cleanest , the neatest and best arranged , and the most inviting one available . This arrangement , when cairicd out , will put the reading loom more in harmony with our many other advanta...

GOLIiEGIANA . — 00 Spectrum—Roasts ! —Let us see a better crowd out at the Indian game on Saturday . It takes money to make base-ball go . —One of the most pleasant features of our life at Gettysburg was exemplified last Monday , when about forty girls from Wilson College came to visit the battlefield , and , of course , disturbed the equanimity of the boys to no small degree . Highly envied were the few who were permitted to talk to their friends , or still better , to show them over the field . And , as good things never come singly , the same day witnessed the visit of a bright bevy from Mountain Seminary , Birmingham , Pa ., who , it is needless to say were likewise taken care of . This is the bright side of Gettysburg .
