FROM MR . GENTRY [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 March 1911
FROM MR . GENTRY To The-Berkshire World : In continuation of my early operations in Berkshires as promised you some time since , I will say that following the purchase , November 25 th , 1875 , of Lord Liverpool 221 st , Royal Duchess 900 th and Sovereign Lady 998 th at a total cost of $ 1 , 800 . 00 , from the herd of John Snell s Sons of Canada , I continued my annual visits to this firm—which was a little later changed to that of J . G . Snell & Bro . —for a period of twenty-three years or until the death of Mr . J . G , Snell in the late summer of 1898 , when this firm ceased operations . The Snells imported Berkshires for a longer period of years than any other person or firm ever in existence , always bringing out the very best and usually the most noted prize winners of the year . The annual English shows are held in June and early July . I usually timed my visits to Canada so as to see the importation in August soon after arrival home , before any of them were so...
Home-made Gas-Light From Crashed Stone [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 March 1911
Home-made Gas-Light From Crashed Stone TWENTY years ago the oil lamp had already been driven out of the city into the country home where gas could not follow—so we thought . In those days we would have laughed at the idea of a country home lighted with gaslight . But like the telephone and free mail delivery gaslight lias finally left the city to become u common rural convenience , In the year 1911 , the up-to-date villager or farmer not only lives in a gaslighted house , same as his city cousin , but when he drives home on a cold , wet night he actually lights up his barn , his barnyard or porches on his house with this gas-light by simply turning an ignition button on a post or wall . * * # And this change seems quite like magic when you consider that this rural gaslight is home-made— made by the family itself right on the premises . Take fifteen min- CRUSHED STONE utes once a month to make all that can be used in a large house . The magic is all in the curious manufactured stone ...

They Keep Their Word [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 March 1911
They Keep Their Word It s worth something in business to deal with people on whose word you can absolutely depend . AVhen Tannenbaum Farms , Willoughby , 0 ., say that they send out on mail orders Quality Berkshires , they mean exactly that and nothing else . Their record at the American Berkshire Congress sale , where they sold two sevenmonths gilts , one for $ 100 . 00 and one for $ 110 . 00 speaks volumes for Tannenbaum Farm Berkshires . We want our readers to notice their ad in this issue , and write them for prices and description . They will describe them exactly as they are and the price will be right . We dont pose as a poultry journal , but we do know something about Columbian Wyandotts . The Editor of this paper recently paid Tannenbaum Farms a long price for a pen of Columbian Wyandotts , and if our readers wish to breed a beautiful strain of poultry that are good layers , good size and thrifty , we would recommend either Columbian Wyandotts or Partridge Wyandotts . If Co...

Read This Letter . [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 March 1911
Read This Letter . Little Compton , R . I . The Berkshire World , Springfield , 111 . Gentlemen : —We quote from a letter from Mr . L . B . Jarman , Porterdale , Ga .: You will doubtless be interested to know that Masterpiece of Georgia 137328 , that I bought of you last summer is making good . With absolutely no fitting I entered him in the Newton Live Stock Show , where in an exhibit of some sixty Berkshires , he won first in class and Grand Championship . Almost immediately , with no fitting , he was sent to the Georgia State Fair , where he won second in class and would have easily topped things had he been in condition . He is growing well and developing finely . Has a good head , great length , and the very best of bone , and stands up on his toes perfectly . We now have for sale some more Berkshires of this character , as per our ad on another page in this issue . Very truly yours , F . M . & D . Patten .
