Some of the citizens of Butler comity are trying to play sharp on old Ben Bntlcr, by attempting to stuff him with the Idea that their county was named after him. We have not heard whether Benjamin has been able to "see it" or not. The county was named after old South Carolina Butler, If we mistake not, The Topeka Jiecord, a few weeks ago, suggested that the next Republican State Convention place In nomination colored man for one of the State of fices. We see no objection to this if an intelligent and eapable man can be nom inated. We are in favor of doing' Jus tice to all parties.. There are some Tery able colored men in Kansas men who would be a credit to any position in which they might be placed. The adoption of the substitute ft (ieueral Banks' resolution in the Ilonse of Representatives virtually Indorses the position of the President, and c...

EMPORIA NEWS. I A COB BTOTLX. 8TOTLER w. w. WILLIAMS. JL WILLIAMS. Eoirou axd ruruirou Friday, t t July SO, 1870. There la nothing at all surprising in the fact that a certain gentleman cannot see the point of our editorials. A man or so many pints hardly ever sees points. The new Internal Revenue Law has undergone a very considerable revision and repeal. Instead of a repeal of the Income provision, it has been materially cut down so as to reach comparatively few, and the lightening of the rate upon that few, will render it a rather harmless affair. The $1,000 exemption has been Increased to $2,000, and the rate of tax pot at 2 per cent, instead of 5, and this shall be imposed for the years 1870 and 1871, and no longer. The effects of the war in Europe on this country will be in some respects good, in others bad. It will immensely Improve our commerce ; it will greatly Increase the price of our breadstpffs. These effects will be highly favorable. On the other band it will depreciate...
