Local and General [Newspaper Article] — Ouyen Mail — 10 April 1918

Local and General. The usual monthly- meeting of Walpeup Shire takes place at Mur- rayville to-morrow week. Some works tenders are advertised else- where in this issue. In this con- nection it will he noticed that the election of a councillor to take the place of Mr J. P. Manning , (who has resigned) takes place on Satur- day week, 20th inst. Nominations are due next Saturday, 13th inst. So far, we know only of Mr W. Callander, of Mulcra, although rumour is busy with other names. Next Wednesday the annual races at Walpeup eventuate, and a great time is anticipated. The program is a rich one and is sure to attract an entry worthy of the occa- sion. The meeting has been some what hurriedly arranged, but the blame of this is attachable to the absurd regulations which were in force until recently. You never know where you are from day to day these times. The report of a few weeks ago that aeroplanes were seen passing over Nyang by Constable Wright met the usual scoffing reception. But t...

This contract we finished before we did th0 rbhlihug on Ui?y .es contract, No 396, and that contract was passed and paid for at that meeting and No 409 is still unpaid for at the time of writing this.
