HOW TO HELD MINING. [Newspaper Article] — Coolgardie Miner — 29 November 1913

HOW TO HEIi* muamCt. (From a Contemporary.) Every Government nowadays is ex pected and exhorted to try and do something to h^eip mining. Most oi them try, in a well-meaning, short sighted iiind of wayj but not a single one of late years has attempted any thing broad and practical. Money is fooled away in dribs and drabs for the beneiit of individuals, or syndicates, or even districts, that are lucky enough to get a Ministerial ear to chew, and there is very seldom anything to show for it — unless it be votes. A new pub ie battery out at the back of beyond means votes, and a prospecting outfit (with camels) ensures a grateful poli tical supporter, and a bonus for deep sinking or crushing for the public is sure to b,e thankfully remembered by those who profit thereby, But a few sops flung here and there are rather worse than useless in the present con dition of the back country. And even these more often go to the most im portunate than the most deserving, like lmsvstematiaed relief e...
